Ambiance
The most beautifully decorated rooms are rooms that follow a
certain scheme or have a certain personality or ambiance. These
styles include, but are not limited to, Casual, Traditional,
Eclectic, Country, Modern, and Romantic. Let's look at them one
at a time.
Casual means comfortable, but it does
not mean the room is not decorated. These rooms require the
same planning as more formal styles. Casual rooms have
furniture that you can cuddle into and feel good to the touch.
Hard-backed chairs have no place in the Casual room. Casual
themes usually use colors that are soothing and not bold.
Traditional rooms are also have that comforting appeal, but are
more formal than Casual rooms. The types of furniture used in
Traditional decorating are normally antiques or reproductions.
They usually have graceful curves and flowing shapes.
Eclectic style means choosing furnishings from other styles in
a cohesive mix. Furniture is chosen not to "match" but to
compliment other furnishings. Eclectic doesn't mean hodgepodge,
but a marrying of compatible styles.
The Country styled room goes back to the past where furniture
was more functional in design: sturdy and simple. Country rooms
also include chintz and calico fabrics, braided rungs over wood
floors and quilts and comforters.
Modern themes are more sleek and have sharper, more straight
lines. It is considered to be more sophisticated than other,
more casual styles. The Modern style believes that less is
more. Bold colors are often used in this style.
Romantic styles are all about flowing lines and show a romantic
mood. No tweeds or velvets, but polished cotton and light
prints. Soft lighting with no glare adds to the romantic
feel.
All of these styles create an ambience or personality that fits
your own personality. Everyone has their own preferences.
